EU Water conference

The 5th European Water Conference aims to present and discuss progress in the implementation of EU water legislation. The event is organized jointly by the Directorate General for the Environment of the European Commission and the next Austrian Presidency of the EU.

OBJECTIVE: To discuss the findings of the different reports related to water and to learn from each other's experiences in view of the upcoming water planning cycles. It will also analyze the ongoing Physical Condition Control of the Water Framework Directive, its associated Directives and the Floods Directive, and the evaluation of the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD).

AIMED AT: Representatives from EU countries, interest groups in relevant economic, social and environmental sectors, the European Commission, the European Environment Agency and other EU institutions.

The main objective of EU water legislation is to achieve a good state of the water resources of the EU. During 2018, a new integral evaluation of the implementation status will be available. This will include a forthcoming Commission report on the second River Basin Management Plans of the EU Member States and the first Flood Risk Management Plans, together with the next Report on the State of Water 2018 of the Agency European Environment.
